区别辨析doubt、suspicion、distrust与uncertainty

doubt、suspicion、distrust与uncertainty均含有“怀疑”之意。

doubt : 指对事物的真、假有怀疑。

• I’m having doubts about his ability to do the job.
  我对他是否能胜任此项工作还有一些疑问。
• If there’s any doubt about the rocket’s engines, we ought to cancel the launch.
  如果对火箭发动机还存有任何疑虑，我们都应该取消此次发射。
• The prosecution has to establish his guilt beyond reasonable doubt (US beyond a reasonable) doubt.
  此次起诉必须证明他所犯的罪行证据确凿。
• This latest scandal has raised doubts about whether he could win the election.
  最近这宗丑闻让人们对他是否能够赢得大选表示怀疑。
• I never had any doubt (that) you would win.
  我从未怀疑你会获胜。
• He’s the most attractive man in the room, no doubt about that/it.
  毫无疑问他是这个房间里最有吸引力的男人。

suspicion : 语气较强，指对某人做某事的目的、意图有怀疑，或认为某人做错事，但无确凿证据而产生怀疑。

• I have a suspicion that he only asked me out because my brother persuaded him to.
  我怀疑是我哥哥说服他约我出去的。
• She had a nagging/sneaking suspicion that she might have sent the letter to the wrong address.
  她心烦意乱地猜想／心里暗想自己可能把信寄错了地址。

distrust : 一般用词，泛指对某人某事不信任而感到怀疑。

• The two groups have existed in a state of mutual distrust for centuries.
  几个世纪以来这两个群体一直处于互不信任的状态之中。
• She has a (deep) distrust of the media.
  她对媒体（非常）不信任。

uncertainty : 侧重指对某事或选择等需作决定时的迟疑不决。

• There is considerable uncertainty about the company’s future.
  这家公司的前景相当渺茫。
• He had an air of uncertainty about him.
  他显出将信将疑的神情。
