区别辨析doubt、suspect与distrust

doubt、suspect与distrust均含“怀疑”之意。

doubt : 普通用词，多指因证据不足或仅凭证据还不能肯定而产生怀疑，多含否定意味。

• I doubt whether/if I can finish the work on time.
  我怀疑自己能否按时完成这项工作。
• They had begun to doubt that it could be done.
  他们开始怀疑能否做到。
• He may come back tomorrow with the money, but I very much doubt it.
  也许明天他会把钱带回来，但我对此深表怀疑。
• I don’t doubt his abilities.
  我并不怀疑他的能力。

suspect : 指猜疑、疑心，肯定意味较多。

• So far, the police do not suspect foul play.
  目前，警察没有怀疑是谋杀。
• We had no reason to suspect (that) he might try to kill himself.
  我们没有理由认为他会自杀。
• “Do you think she’ll have told them?” “I suspect not/so.”
  “你认为她会不会已经告诉他们了？”“我想不会／会的。”

distrust : 指疑惑、猜疑，不信任。

• Many politicians are deeply distrusted by the electorate.
  很多政治人物非常不受选民信任。
