区别辨析disguise、mask与cloak

disguise、mask与cloak均表示“伪装”或“掩饰”之意。

disguise : 指改变装束或外表以掩饰自己的真面目或冒充他人。有时仅指掩饰感情、动机或意图。

• He disguised himself by wearing a false beard.
  他粘上假胡须伪装自己。
• Minor skin imperfections can usually be disguised with a spot of make-up.
  微小的皮肤瑕疵通常可以用化妆品来掩盖。
• We tried to disguise the fact that it was just a school hall by putting up coloured lights and balloons.
  我们挂上彩灯和气球，不想让人看出这里实际上只是一个学校礼堂。
• I couldn’t disguise my disappointment.
  我无法掩饰自己的失望。

mask : 本义为“面罩”，引申“掩饰”解时，指掩饰某物的真实性质或存在的伪装。

• The newspaper revealed the sordid truth behind his mask of respectability.
  报纸揭露了他体面外表下龌龊肮脏的真实嘴脸。

cloak : 指采取伪装来掩盖或隐藏真实面目或本性或企图。

• He has always kept his love affairs cloaked in secrecy (= kept them secret).
  他总是隐瞒他的风流韵事。
• The river is often cloaked in mist in the early morning.
  清晨，这条河上常常是雾霭弥漫。
