区别辨析bay与gulf

这两个名词均有“海湾”之意。

bay : 指海岸线上一大块凹入的地方，是港口的所在地。

• We sailed into a beautiful, secluded bay.
  我们驶进了一个美丽、僻静的海湾。
• San Francisco Bay
  圣弗朗西斯科湾（旧金山湾）
• the Bay of Naples
  那不勒斯海湾

gulf : 一般比bay大，但比sea小。指大片深入到陆地中，由海岸围绕成半圆形的海水区域。

• the Gulf of Mexico
  墨西哥湾
• One American pilot was forced to ditch his jet in the Gulf
  一位美国飞行员被迫将喷气式飞机紧急迫降在波斯湾上。
