区别辨析storm、hurricane与typhoon

这些名词均有“大风”之意。

storm : 指雷电交加的暴风雨，也多作引申用。

• A lot of trees were blown down in the recent storms.
  在最近的暴风雨中许多树木被刮倒。
• They’re still cleaning up the storm damage.
  他们还在清理风暴留下的残局。

hurricane : 指12级大风，尤指西大西洋的飓风、大气旋。

• The state of Florida was hit by a hurricane that did serious damage.
  佛罗里达州遭受了飓风袭击，损失严重。
• Hurricane force (= very strong) winds are expected tonight.
  预计今晚会有飓风级的强风。

typhoon : 主要指西太平洋海洋上发生的极猛烈的风暴，风力常达十级以上。

• The 169,000-ton vessel went down during a typhoon in the South China Sea.
  台风中，一艘169 000吨位的轮船在南中国海沉没了。
