区别辨析competition、contest与match

这些名词均有“比赛、竞争”之意。

competition : 多指体育运动中的各项比赛、角逐，也指知识、技巧等方面的竞赛。

• a swimming/chess competition
  游泳／国际象棋比赛
• She’s entered a crossword competition.
  她参加了纵横填字比赛。
• You don’t need to eat so quickly! It’s not a competition.
  你不必吃得这么快！又不是比赛。

contest : 多指在音乐、书法、演讲等方面所进行的比赛或竞争。其结果，由评判委员会裁决。

• a dance/sports contest
  舞蹈／体育比赛
• She’s won a lot of beauty contests.
  她多次在选美大赛中获胜。

match : 通常指体育运动项目的比赛，隐含势均力敌意味。

• a tennis match
  网球比赛
• a football/cricket match
  足球／板球比赛
• We won/lost the match.
  我们赢／输掉了比赛。
• Liverpool have a match with (= against) Blackburn next week.
  利物浦队下周与布莱克本队有一场比赛。
